Adult Dermatology Services

In general, adult dermatology focuses on skin conditions that are frequently seen primarily in individuals from late adolescence through old age.

Common adult skin conditions we address include:

  1. Acne and Rosacea: Acne in adults can be carried over from adolescence or develop later in life due to hormonal changes, stress, diet, environment, medication, and a variety of other lifestyle factors. Rosacea is also an adult dermatological condition characterized by thickening of skin, facial redness, and sometimes pustules (pimples).
  2. Eczema and Psoriasis: Although these conditions can occur at any age, they are common adult skin conditions that can affect social aspects of one’s life as well. They are chronic conditions that are managed through various treatments, including topical medications, phototherapy, systemic drugs, and lifestyle modifications.
  3. Skin Cancer: Here at Beyond Skin we perform screenings, biopsies, and treatments for various skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. We believe that prevention along with early detection and treatment are vitally important in managing these conditions.
  4. Aging Skin: Time and the environment we live in can cause extra wear and tear on our skin. We want you to look and feel good therefore, we proudly provide various cosmetic dermatology services for adults including treatments for wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of aging. Some of our more popular procedures include Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling, and chemical peels.
  5. Skin Infections: We also diagnose and treat various forms of bacterial, fungal, and viral infections such as impetigo, cellulitis, and herpes zoster (shingles) which commonly plague adults.
  6. Hair and Nail Disorders: Conditions that affect the nails and hair are also common in adults. Hair loss (alopecia), nail fungus, and other nail abnormalities are part of our dermatological care here at Beyond Skin Dermatology. Dr. Kim received training from the foremost experts in scarring alopecia during his residency at Walter Reed and has a special interest in helping patients with these disorders.

Pediatric Dermatology Services

Pediatric dermatology addresses skin conditions unique to infants, children, and adolescents. Here at Beyond Skin Dermatology, our approach involves not only treating skin conditions but also strongly considering the emotional and psychological factors influencing our young patients’ health and well-being.

Common conditions we treat in our pediatric population include:

  1. Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema): Characterized by dry, itchy, and inflamed skin, atopic dermatitis, also commonly called eczema and its various types, is common in children. Management includes frequent moisturizers, topical medications, light therapy, systemic medications, and behavioral modifications.
  2. Birthmarks: Skin discolorations or distortions caused by hemangiomas and port-wine stains are evaluated and treated, sometimes with laser therapy or medical intervention.
  3. Persistent Diaper Rash and Infantile Dermatoses: These conditions are common in infants, can sometimes persist due to underlying infection, and require gentle and consistent treatment and behavioral modifications.
  4. Molluscum Contagiosum and Warts: Caused by viruses, these unwanted skin lesions are extremely common in children and are treated through various methods such as cryotherapy, curettage, injections, or topical treatment and in some cases, active observation is recommended.
  5. Genetic Skin Disorders: Although rare, genetic skin conditions like ichthyosis, epidermolysis bullosa, and other genetic disorders expressed in the skin can be identified and addressed by our experienced and skilled team.
  6. Adolescent Skin Issues: As hormones and puberty take effect, acne becomes a significant concern for teenagers. We understand the effect acne can have on an individual’s physical, emotional, and social interactions and here at Beyond Skin Dermatology we are dedicated to providing tailored treatments that encompass all influencing factors to manage our patients’ acne effectively.
  7. Allergic Reactions and Urticaria: Although seen in adults as well, allergic reactions that affect the skin are common in kids. Identifying and managing allergic skin reactions, including chronic hives, is a part of our pediatric dermatological care.

We are passionate about helping maintain skin health, manage chronic conditions, and improve the quality of life for our patients. Our team will employ a combination of clinical expertise, advanced technologies, and compassionate care to address the wide array of skin conditions affecting individuals across all different age groups.
