Supporting natural-looking results, a safe experience with specialist expertise

Beyond Skin Dermatology is led by a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Sang Kim. Due to Dr. Kim’s considerable knowledge and experience with the anatomy and function of the skin and face, you know that your aesthetic procedure is in exceptional hands at our Denver, Colorado area office in Aurora.

What do you mean by aesthetic services?

As a full-service dermatology clinic, our team, Dr. Sang Kim largely provides aesthetic, medical, and surgical dermatology solutions for both adult and pediatric patients. Aesthetic dermatology services differ from the other categories mentioned here as they are largely cosmetic in nature and recommended to improve patients’ appearance. They are not about treating conditions per se. Medical dermatology is the branch of services focused on treating conditions like atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis, acne, and skin cancers. With that being said, there is some overlap as therapies that generally fall under the cosmetic/aesthetic category can improve symptoms such as redness associated with conditions like rosacea. In general, though, aesthetic services are often an option to improve signs of aging and sun damage and to remove benign (non-cancerous) growths that are not dangerous to your physical health but can still make you feel less than your best about how you look.

What is the best option to make me look younger?

The answer to that question depends on numerous factors that are specific to you. During a consultation, we will discuss your concerns at greater length. We will also take a closer look at those specific concerns. Only then can we determine the most appropriate next steps. Those “next steps” could include injectable treatments like Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, and dermal/soft tissue fillers. Other services offered at our specialty practice include:

  • Chemical peels
  • Microneedling
  • Skin tag removal
  • Removal of benign/non-cancerous lesions

Dr. Kim takes a special interest and has advanced expertise in the removal of lesions via techniques such as cryotherapy, lasers, and excision surgery.

What is the difference between Botox® and filler?

Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport® contain a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. This active ingredient may be injected into specific muscles of the face. Once injected, this formulation relaxes the muscle. A muscle that stays at rest does not contract and contribute to the formation or worsening of expression lines like crow’s feet around the eyes. Filler works differently. It is formulated most commonly with Hyaluronic Acid. Once injected into areas of the face that could use additional volume, HA-based filler immediately plumps up the treatment site. This “plumping action” may also be used to “fill in” scars, lines, and wrinkles, such as those nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth.

What alternatives do you have to injectables?

Depending on your specific needs and goals for treatment, we may recommend resurfacing with chemical peels. This is a highly versatile procedure that can be customized to your skin concern, as well as your skin type. The idea is to encourage fresh, healthy, new skin cells because old and dead cells can build up on the skin as we age, contributing to a dry, leathery, and lackluster appearance and feel. Microneedling actually renews the production of skin-plumping collagen to improve the appearance of scars, fine lines, and more by encouraging the healing process deep within the skin.
